Seattle Trip... Part 1

We are currently in Seattle enjoying the beginning of our week long vacation. We flew up Friday evening after we got out of work, and we were quite nervous about flying with Emily. We didn't want to be "those people" on the plane, so we were hoping that Emily would be good. The first flight went alright... she was a little fussy, but I don't think it was too bad, and she slept through the second one. I hope the next round goes as well.

For part of our time here we are staying with Jamie, Danielle, and Isaac (Andrew's brother, sister-in-law, and nephew). We are so excited to get to spend some time with them and let the babies get to know each other.

On Saturday morning, Emily got to meet her cousin Ike... they enjoyed staring at each other and becoming acquainted with one another. That afternoon, we went to Whidby Island to attend Andrew's Grandfather's 90th birthday party. It was nice to see the whole family and give Emily a chance to meet everyone. The party was very nice... there were about 150 people there, and they had put together a little program talking about Grandpa Bacon's life and showed a bunch of pictures. It was great to get to know more about his 90 years... and seeing older photos and videos is always fun.

After the party, we headed out to G-ma and G-pa's house to spend more time together before we headed back into Seattle for the evening.

We are excited to see what is in store for us the rest of the week.

Here is Emily sitting on my lap on the plane eating her squeaky mushroom, Pie...

Andrew, Emily and I waiting in line for the ferry... we were waiting for about 2 hours. I guess Saturday morning isn't the best time to try to get a ride on the ferry.

More Additions to the Family...

I mentioned Emily getting a new cousin the other day, but what I didn't tell you was about her new cousin-in-law that joined the family a few weeks ago.  Casandra and Matt tied the knot in the US Virgin Islands on August 5th.  I was going to post something then, but I was waiting for pictures!

Freddy and Casandra heading into the church.

Matt and Casandra.

Casandra and Amber... I just had to post this because I can't believe how pregnant Amber looks!  Apparently I was a big disappointment to everyone the last time I went to visit while I was pregnant because I barely looked it, so I guess Amber feels like she needs to show me how it's done.  You look great.  Maybe you could have considered sharing a little though.

Now we can finally stop asking Casandra when she's getting married, and move on to the next phase of questioning... when are you going to have a baby already ;)... just kidding Casandra.  Congratulations!  We're so excited for you.  Everything looked beautiful.  Welcome to the family Matt... we're glad to have you.

Another New Cousin for Emily

Yesterday, Kathleen and Johnny welcomed Layla Vanae Heredia to the world, and Emily got to add a new cousin to her ever-growing family tree.  For those interested in the stats, Layla weighed in at 8 pounds 11.8 ounces and was 20 inches long.  It looks like we have another big Schauer baby on our hands.  I spoke with Kathleen several times yesterday and both she and the baby (and Johnny) are doing well.  No word on when they are leaving the hospital, but I will keep everyone posted.  Johnny sent out a few pictures after she was born, but I haven't been able to get them to post yet.  We are all looking forward to meeting her soon.

Emily's New Tricks

So over the last few days (and weeks) Emily has started performing some new tricks that I thought were worth reporting.  In the last few days she has found her feet.  She mainly plays with them when we're changing her diaper, but I've seen her at other times as well.  Another amazing feat is the ability to insert her zoogie (pacifier) into her mouth on her own.  She can't find it and pick it up on her own yet, but I'm sure that will be coming soon as well.  She has also started playing with her toys.  Before she would just watch us move them in front of her, but now she will hold them and chew on them.  This is very exciting stuff.  I am constantly amazed when I look back at old pictures, etc. and see how far she has come.

Our Growing Girl... Take 2

We went back to the doctor's office last week for Emily's 4 month check up.  She now weighs in at 13 pounds 9 ounces (50th percentile), is 24 1/2 inches long (55th percentile), and has a head circumference of 40 1/2 centimeters (40th percentile).  I included the percentiles for those of you who are interested.  I guess her growing has tapered off some since our last visit, but the doctor wasn't concerned at all.  We're starting to have to move her into some of her 3-6 month outfits too.  Our little girl is growing up...
